Talkative was born from a simple frustration — and a belief that millions of Indians deserve a better way to practise the language that opens doors.
India produces millions of English learners every year. Schools teach grammar, coaching centres drill vocabulary, and YouTube channels explain tenses all day long. Yet when the moment comes — a job interview, a client call, a new colleague — the words just don't come out.
The gap isn't knowledge. It's practice. Specifically, the kind of practice that only happens when you're in a real conversation with a real person, with no script and no replay button.
Finding that practice partner is harder than it sounds. Friends feel judged. Strangers feel risky. Tutors are expensive. AI feels hollow. For most people, the answer has been: just don't.
"What if strangers could practise English with each other through a single tap — no registration walls, no tutors, no awkwardness?"
The idea started as a conversation between friends who had all lived this problem. We had good English on paper, but the moment we needed to speak — in meetings, on calls, in interviews — something froze. We knew we weren't alone.
We looked at language learning apps and found tools great for vocabulary and grammar drills. We found AI chat tools good for static text. But we didn't find anything designed around the simple act of talking to another human who is in the same boat as you.
So we built it ourselves. No AI conversation. No pre-scripted lessons. Just two willing strangers, a live voice connection, and a shared goal: to become a little more fluent today than they were yesterday.
Every call connects you to a real person working toward the same goal. No bots, no AI voices, no fake fluency theatre. Just two humans being real with each other.
Your phone number is never shared. Your voice is never recorded. You practise without the fear that someone is listening — or that you'll get a call from a stranger you spoke to last week.
Every call ends with a rating. The community self-moderates. Bad actors lose standing quickly. Consistently good partners are rewarded. Safety isn't a feature — it's the foundation.
₹29 per month. Less than a cup of chai at most cafés. English fluency should not require a coaching budget. We priced it so that anyone who wants to improve, can.
Open the app. Tap once. You're in a live English conversation. No setting up profiles, no scheduling sessions, no waiting rooms. If friction kills habits, we've killed the friction.
The diversity of accents, backgrounds, and goals across India is a feature, not a bug. Talking to someone from a different state builds real adaptability — the kind that matters in the real world.
India has over 125 million English learners actively trying to improve. The vast majority don't have access to a practice partner who won't judge them, who is available right now, and who is genuinely on the same journey. Talkative wants to be that partner for every single one of them.
We're starting with voice. But the underlying belief goes further: confidence comes from repetition in a safe environment. Every call someone makes on Talkative is one more rep. One more moment when their brain says: "I can do this."
If Talkative can be the reason even a fraction of those 125 million people walk into their next interview, board meeting, or conversation with more confidence — we will have built something worth building.

Krishna built Talkative from scratch — design, Android app, backend, infrastructure, and everything in between. What started as a personal frustration turned into 8+ months of field-testing, iterating on real user feedback, and building a production-grade VoIP platform designed to scale across India.
The app runs on a custom WebRTC/LiveKit voice infrastructure, a Redis-based real-time matching engine, and a Riverpod-powered Flutter client — all built and maintained by one person with a clear mission.
